Plan Notes
CROP ROTATION. Plan to rotate your crop by dividing your plot roughly into three sections, this will help to control certain pests and soil borne diseases which will build up in the soil if the same crop is grown in the same area year in year out. Each year the crops are moved on to the next section and in this way no crop will return to the same piece of ground for three years and the whole plot will be manured every three years. VEGETABLE PLOT BED 2 should be treated with fertilizer and lime and used to grow brassicas. Brassicas: Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli, kale, kohl-rabi, oriental greens, radish, swede and turnips BED 3 should be treated with manure or compost and used to grow Legumes. + Onions, as these crops require the richest ground to do well. Legumes: Pea, broad beans (French and runner beans suffer from fewer soil problems and can be grown wherever convenient) + Onions: Onion, garlic, shallot, leek and courgettes. BED 1 should be treated with a fertilizer only and used for root and potato crops. Potato family: Potato, tomato, + Roots: Beetroot, carrot, celeriac, celery, Florence fennel, parsley, parsnip and all other root crops, (pepper and aubergine suffer from fewer problems and can be grown anywhere in the rotation). FRUIT PLOT BED 4 Permanent for soft fruit, Blueberries, Blackcurrents, Raspberries, Strawberries, Gooseberries. Also a large bed for herbs. POLY TUNNEL Two beds to grow Abergine, Melon, Tomatoes. Refresh soil every year with General compost and Mushroom compost.
