Capsicum
Yolo Wonder
| 8 | 35cm | 30cm x 40cm | Planted around August 2020, very slow growing during this period as too cold and not much full sun.
Since December 2020, we have had some fruit develop, but still very small.
Into spring, we saw good growth, but fruit rarely developed past the size of a fig due to over crowding and severe aphid infestation that we were unable to control.
Weather this season was significantly wet, which was detrimental to the harvest.
Would plant again, but would need more sun, more space, less pests. |

Carrot
Paris Market
| 12 | 10cm | 10cm x 15cm | Planted 3rd Sept 2020 into fence patch. Did not grow larger than 8cm on average due to large root intrusion from trees next door. Fence patch will need to be grown in pots in future. |
|
Carrot
Nantes
| 12 | 10cm | 10cm x 15cm | Planted 3rd Sept 2020 into fence patch. Did not grow larger than 8cm on average due to large root intrusion from trees next door. Fence patch will need to be grown in pots in future. |

| 12 | 10cm | 10cm x 15cm | Planted 3rd Sept 2020 into fence patch. Did not grow larger than 8cm on average due to large root intrusion from trees next door. Fence patch will need to be grown in pots in future. |
|
Cucumber
| 3 | 60cm | 60cm x 60cm | Not much luck with cucumber at this point. Lots of powdery mildew and quite small growth.
Plants develop very crusty leaves and tend to die quite quickly. May try changing to a larger pot for next season. |
|
Eggplant
| 2 | 40cm | 35cm x 45cm | Planted as seedlings around August 2020. Very slow growth for first 3 months. Once it warmed up in December we saw lots of leaf growth, but zero fruit as of Jan 2021.
Due to significant rainfall and infestation of aphids, this plant did not fruit. |
|
Flower
| 6 | 20cm | 15cm x 20cm | |
|
Garlic
| 4 | 15cm | 10cm x 25cm | Planted as seedlings in Aug 2020.
All rotted. Too wet and too cold. |
|
Leek
| 18 | 20cm | 15cm x 30cm | Planted 22nd August 2020. As of Jan 21, going strong with very little plant loss. No pests and deals quite well in a partial shade position.
Stems are currently approx 15mm diameter and will be ready to harvest in the next 4 weeks.
At end of season we had lots of rainfall leading to some plants rotting at the base. Harvest will be OK, but could be better. |
|
Lettuce (Loose Leaf)
| 28 | 10cm | 10cm x 15cm | Have had mixed results with the loose leaf variety. This one bolts very easily and tends to grow more stalk than leaf. |
|
Lettuce (Loose Leaf)
Cos Verdi
| 8 | 30cm | 30cm x 50cm | Love this variety! Very loose leaves (doesn't create a tight head). Lots of growth and doesn't bolt. |
|
Marigold
| 6 | 20cm | 20cm x 20cm | |
|
Mint
| 1 | 20cm | 15cm x 25cm | |
|
Mustard
Komatsuna
| 4 | 15cm | 15cm x 15cm | Did not grow well. Very peppery leaf with quite woody stem. |

|
Onion (Spring planted)
| 36 | 15cm | 10cm x 20cm | Main Patch: Planted around Nov 2020. Part shade. Havent had much luck here - probably needs a full sun position. |
|
Onion (Spring planted)
Creamgold
| 48 | 10cm | 10cm x 40cm | Fence Patch: Planted 3rd Sept 2020. Mostly all died. While this position does get a good amount of morning sun, it has probably not been warm enough for it to flourish.
At end of season, we saw significant root intrusion from trees next door. Will need to grow all plants in pots unless very hardy. |
|
Parsley
| 1 | 15cm | 10cm x 25cm | |
|
Potatoes (Maincrop)
Kipfler
| 4 | 45cm | 35cm x 75cm | Up-Top Patch: Grew in large plastic woven grow bags. Insufficient drainage and very wet Nov/Dec lead to root rot and very poor production. Will try adding more drainage holes to the grow bags, but probably will need to move to a pot. |
|
Potatoes (Maincrop)
White Star
| 4 | 45cm | 35cm x 75cm | Up-Top Patch: Grew in large plastic woven grow bags. Insufficient drainage and very wet Nov/Dec lead to root rot and very poor production. Will try adding more drainage holes to the grow bags, but probably will need to move to a pot. |
|
Pumpkin (Round)
Queensland Blue
| 2 | 1.20m | 1.20m x 3.00m | Hillside Patch: Planted Aug. 2020: So far so good! Not much growth through spring, but come warmer Nov/Dec weeks has seen some good growth. Few fruit, but nothing sufficient to harvest. |
|
Radish
Long White Icicle
| 10 | 10cm | 10cm x 20cm | Fence Patch: Planted 22nd August 2020. Nice variety, will be good for asian slaw or sashimi. Had a reasonable harvest and very quick growing. Very large leaf canopy which shadows other smaller plants (we had spring onion seedlings beside and they struggled to grow at the same time). Since harvesting, the spring onions have done quite well. |
|
Rosemary
| 1 | 20cm | 20cm x 20cm | |
|
Silver Beet
| 4 | 35cm | 30cm x 40cm | Planted 22nd August 2020. Not a huge fan, don't use it much in cooking. Unlikely to grow again. |
|
Snow Pea
| 5 | 10cm | 10cm x 20cm | Fence Patch: Planted from seed in very early August 2020. Surprised at how well this grew and produced fruit well into Oct/Nov. Would grow again. |
|
Spring Onion
| 10 | 10cm | 10cm x 10cm | Fence Patch: Planted 22nd August 2020. Struggled to grow for first 4 months as it was shaded by radish beside it. Since radish has harvested though this has done exceptionally well. Will harvest in next few weeks. |
|
Squash
Button Squash
| 4 | 60cm | 60cm x 60cm | Main patch: planted from seedling around October.
Grew these very closely spaced (approx 20cm between plants) and had about 15 plants in a single bed - too much!
Overwhelming amount of powdery mildew and lots of end rot of fruit. Did not get a harvest and have since pulled out and replaced with betroot.
Plants turned very leggy and had to be pruned back quite harshly almost fortnightly.
Need to try a different variety. |
|
Strawberry
| 1 | 50cm | 45cm x 60cm | Hillside Patch: Planted approx Sept 2020 in a strawberry pot. For first few months we saw very little growth as still quite cool. Come Nov/Dec we have seen a small amount of fruit develop, but nothing significant. |
|
Tarragon
| 1 | 40cm | 40cm x 50cm | |
|
Tomato (Cherry)
| 1 | 50cm | 45cm x 60cm | |
|
Tomato (Cherry)
Double Truss Cherry
| 2 | 50cm | 45cm x 60cm | Main Patch: Planted Sept 2020 from seedling.
Had a great harvest from this plant prior to Dec 2020 when we had significant rainfall all month.
These tomatoes are beautiful, perfectly round and grow lots of fruit from very thick trusses.
Would definitely plant again.
We pushed the end of the season through to April, but due to rain and lack of sun we saw no further fruiting events. Would plant again next season. |
|
Tomato (Cherry)
Roma (OG)
| 1 | 50cm | 45cm x 60cm | Main Patch: Planted Sep 2020.
Another great tomato with great eggplant shaped fruit. Had some issues with disease (brown spot and other fungus) but once the lower metre of stem was trimmed of all leaves, this seemed to fix it.
Very fast growing and great fruit production.
Would grow again. |
|
Tomato (Regular)
Grosse Lisse
| 2 | 50cm | 45cm x 60cm | Main patch: planted in Sep 20 as seedling.
Accidentally pruned main stem when nipping suckers. Stunted growth on one plant for a couple of months.
Regardless, both plants grew very slowly and produced very little fruit.
Significant amount of infection from fungus.
Would not plant again. |
|
Tomato (Regular)
Pineapple
| 1 | 50cm | 45cm x 60cm | Main Patch Sep '20: reasonable amount of growth over duration of growing period. Fair amount of fungus, but almost as few fruit as the Black Russian. Over course of season we have probably only had about 5-8 pieces of fruit.
Unlikely to plant again. |
|
Tomato (Regular)
Black Russian
| 1 | 50cm | 50cm x 60cm | Main Patch: planted Sep 2020 from seedling.
Very slow growing plant with very little fruit production. Fruit that did grow was extremely susceptible to fruit fly and small caterpillars.
Have only yielded one piece of fruit to date (Jan 21). Unlikely to plant again. |
|
Tomato (Regular)
Yellow
| 1 | 50cm | 45cm x 60cm | Main Patch Sep '20: reasonable amount of growth over duration of growing period. Fair amount of fungus, but almost as few fruit as the Black Russian. Over course of season we have probably only had about 5-8 pieces of fruit.
Unlikely to plant again. |
|
Tomato (Regular)
Tigerella (OG)
| 2 | 50cm | 45cm x 60cm | Main patch Sep '20: Very quick growing plant and would have the highest yield of all tomatoes. Flesh is very soft and thin skin, which makes it sometimes unpleasant when raw, but lovely to look at.
Quite susceptible to fungus, but with spraying we have had good results. Would plant 1 - 2 plants again, but no more as fruit is quite small. |
|
Tomato (Regular)
Rouge de Marmande
| 1 | 50cm | 45cm x 60cm | Main Patch: raised from seed in small pot. Transferred to main patch in Dec '20. So far, very good result on growth and already yielding small amounts of fruit. Will see what rest of season brings.
At end of season, we were very happy with the yield, but we lacked continuity on fertilising leading to the plant suffering.
Would grow again as a main crop. |
|
Tree (Large)
| 1 | 4.00m | 4.00m x 4.00m | |
|
Tree (Small)
| 5 | 2.50m | 2.50m x 2.50m | |
|
Zucchini
Zucchini Flower
| 6 | 60cm | 60cm x 60cm | Up-Top Patch sep '20: purchased as seedling and planted in very small terracotta pots. Had reasonable amounts of flowers develop, but nothing that generated significant yield. We probably have had about a dozen usable pieces of fruit/flowers which were beautiful. More work to be done on getting the growing conditions right. |
|
Zucchini
Black Beauty (OG)
| 2 | 60cm | 60cm x 60cm | Up-Top Patch Sep '20: purchased seedling and grew in large plastic pot with approx 4 plants per pot. Very closely spaced and led to quite a lot of powdery mildew.
Very little fruit production. To date, we have only had about 2-4 pieces from this plant. |
|
Zucchini
Lebanese
| 4 | 60cm | 60cm x 60cm | Up-Top Patch Sep '20: purchased seedling and grew in large plastic pot with approx 4 plants per pot. Very closely spaced and led to quite a lot of powdery mildew.
Very little fruit production. To date, we have only had about 2-4 pieces from this plant. |
